Law Library Assistant (Part-Time), Suffolk University Moakley Law Library (Boston)

The Law Library Assistant is part of the team that oversees the Law Library’s Circulation/Reserve Department.  This includes supervising student workers; providing library services to patrons; and collaborating with the Circulation Manager on projects and services.

Primary/Principal Responsibilities:

Staff the Circulation/Reserve Desk to provide services to library patrons, including but not limited to checking materials in and out, managing study rooms, retrieving items from library collections, answering patron questions, opening and closing the law library, and other duties as assigned.

Supervise and train student workers. Assist with student worker scheduling and staffing issues.

Assist with projects including but not limited to inventory, collection evaluation, projects assigned by the Circulation Manager and Law Library Administration, and outreach.

Assist with department tasks such as interlibrary loan, document delivery, headcounts, monitoring the physical space for facilities issues, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Standard hours of this position are Fridays – Sundays, 4 -11pm with a one-hour dinner break (18 hours/week).  The Law Library Assistant may occasionally be asked to work other days/times due to staffing needs.

BA/BS, or equivalent required; current enrollment in an accredited program for a Master’s degree in Library & Information Science or equivalent is preferred;
Strong written and oral communication skills required;
Strong computer skills, including expertise with Office 365 applications, particularly Excel, Teams, and Outlook, required;
Keen attention to detail, strong time management and analytical skills required;
Must be able to work both independently on assigned projects and as part of a team;
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds, push full book carts, and bend and reach to retrieve and shelve books;
Demonstrated commitment to customer service and ability to handle difficult situations required;
Previous experience with outreach initiatives and using Canva preferred;
Previous library experience, especially with Sierra, ILLiad, and/or SpringShare applications preferred;
Creative, proactive candidates preferred;
Supervisory experience and/or experience working with student workers preferred.
