Library Director, Randall Library (Stow)
The Randall Library Board of Trustees is seeking an experienced and visionary Library Director to lead the Randall Library. This full-time (37.5 hours/week, FLSA exempt) position offers a unique opportunity to guide a vibrant community resource that values innovation, inclusivity, and lifelong learning.
Under the general direction of the Board of Library Trustees, the Library Director is responsible for the overall management and administration of the Randall Library. This includes strategic planning, fiscal oversight, personnel management, collection development, public programming, policy implementation, and community relations. The Director plays a key leadership role in ensuring that the Library continues to meet the informational, cultural, educational, and recreational needs of the Stow community.
The Director oversees all library operations, including budgeting, financial management, and grant administration. They will develop, implement, and evaluate library policies, procedures, and services. Provide leadership and supervision to library staff and volunteers, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation. Direct collection development to ensure a balanced, diverse, and responsive collection. Plan and deliver community programs and services aligned with the Library’s mission and strategic goals. Manage the maintenance and improvement of library facilities, technology, and digital resources. Foster strong partnerships with town departments, schools, community organizations, and regional library networks. Serve as the Library’s spokesperson, promoting its programs and services to the community through media, public events, and social platforms.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS or MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program required. Library Director Certification from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) is desired. Five to seven years of progressively responsible library experience, including management and supervisory responsibilities. Comprehensive knowledge of public library administration, budgeting, and personnel management. Proficiency with library automation systems, emerging technologies, and digital resources.
