Assistant Director, Whitman Public Library (Whitman)

The Whitman Public Library is a small public library in a welcoming community approximately 40 minutes south of Boston. We welcome enthusiastic and friendly candidates to apply for the position of Assistant Library Director at our busy library.

The Assistant Library Director will oversee all aspects of library services including technology assistance, reference services, bibliographic instruction, collection development of materials and resources, outreach and the development and implementation of programming. Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate must be comfortable working directly with the staff, the public, and assisting them all with all information needs. The ability to multitask and a willingness to perform hands-on library work is essential to the position. The candidate must also be a committed team player with a positive, can-do attitude.

This position has a typical work week of 35 hours. Additional hours may be required from time to time. Some evening shifts and Saturday shifts during the school year are required along with attendance at special meetings and programs.

Qualifications

ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS preferred. Current MLS/MLIS students who have completed a substantial portion of their coursework and recent graduates are strongly encouraged to apply.

2-3 years of public library experience preferred.

Experience in reference services, including resources and techniques.

Experience in either Adult or Child Services.

Comfort with and knowledge of emerging technologies.

Programming and outreach experience preferred.
