Interim Library Director, Richards Memorial Library (Paxton)
The Richards Memorial Library (RML) in Paxton, MA, seeks an experienced, enthusiastic, and forward-thinking interim library director to manage and guide the library while we conduct a search for a permanent library director.
The interim director will work closely with the town administrator, RML’s Board of Trustees, and the full-time youth services librarian to oversee all library operations, including budgeting, strategic planning, service delivery, employee management, and facilities maintenance.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree is required, and an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited master’s degree in library and information science is preferred, along with at least three years of progressive library experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The successful candidate must have strong communication and organizational skills, as well as knowledge of public library and general management principles, collection development, and library technology.
This role requires 25 hours per week, including Tuesdays (1pm–8pm), Wednesdays (9am–5pm), and Fridays (9am–5pm), with the potential for Thursdays (1pm–8pm) or Saturdays (10a–2pm) when coverage is needed.
