Early Childhood Librarian (25 hours per week with benefits), Bolton Public Library (Bolton)
Due to a staff member's relocation, the Bolton Public Library seeks an Early Childhood Librarian to serve birth through second grade, as well as provide general library services to youth of all ages. This position requires 20-25 hours of work per week and is eligible for benefits (prorated based on a 40-hour work week). Position is available now.
The Early Childhood Librarian supports the Youth Services Department and works closely with the Youth Services Librarian to plan and deliver engaging, enriching materials and programs to young readers. The Early Childhood Librarian will continue to offer Baby and Toddler Sensory Time, Baby Lapsit Storytime, and Preschool Storytime as established. The Early Childhood Librarian will also offer additional programs, cooperate in developing and carrying out the Summer Reading Program, and participate in collection development.
Essential functions include: plans, promotes, presents programs; assists with reader's advisory and general library use; maintains the collection including preparing materials for display and shelving materials; evaluates and weeds the collection; designs flyers and other promotional materials; contributes to the library's website and social media (with supervision); teaches library technology to young children and caregivers; monitors safety in the Youth Services area; collaborates with the Youth Services Librarian to plan and present library and community events; adheres to established practices and offers suggestions for improvement; collects statistics; stays informed on trends and best practices; represents the library to local community groups, schools and preschools; performs circulation and clerical tasks including registering new patrons and collecting fees; engages in professional development.
Work schedule for this position is as follows: Tuesdays 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.; Wednesdays 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.; Thursdays 2 p.m. - 8:15 p.m., Fridays 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. In addition, this position is part of the Saturday rotation, working 9:30 a.m. until 2:15 p.m. one to two Saturdays per month.
Qualifications
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree; 1-3 years relevant work experience, or combination of education, training, and experience that provides the knowledge and skills to do the job. PREFERRED: Master's in Library Science (in process or completed).
A satisfactory CORI result is required as a condition of employment.
