Youth Programming Librarian, Meekins Library (Williamsburg)
The Chester Jon Kmit & Sandra Kmit Bernier Bequest ensures that all Williamsburg children from birth to nineteen have ongoing access to an experienced and knowledgeable children’s programming librarian. Through targeted programming and working directly with children, the Kmit Librarian will teach and model an appreciation of the pleasures of reading, the knowledge of how to use a library to enhance that appreciation and promote the life-long habit of library use.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works directly under the supervision of the Director of Libraries within general procedural and policy guidelines.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Teaches library skills for the Anne T Dunphy Elementary School Library program which serves Preschool thru 6th grade.
· Creates a varied schedule of library programs for ages 0-19 including book groups, STEAM programs, Saturday and after school activities. Programs will encourage reading and the use of the library facility and its resources.
· Works with staff to develop and carry out Summer Reading activities.
· Maintains awareness of trends in youth services and of issues affecting youth.
· Designs and provides engaging activities that help young people develop their creativity, interests, and talents.
· Attends meetings and participates in professional library organizations. Performs other duties as required by director.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY:
Experience working with and teaching children, both individually and in groups.
Knowledge of children’s literature and materials.
· Competence designing programs for children from birth to age 19.
· Ability to deal effectively with parents, teachers and school administration.
· Must be proficient in the use of the computer, electronic databases, and a working knowledge of computer applications for library services. Familiarity with Evergreen ILS is a plus.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Master of Library Science Degree from an accredited school and two years’ experience preferred.
Requires Bachelor's Degree plus specialized library or teaching/school experience.

Salary Notes
18 hours per week at $23.00 per hour. Must be available for teaching classes on Wednesday mornings and Thursday afternoons. S
