Assistant Director of Library Services, Concord Free Public Library (Concord)
The Concord Free Public Library is seeking an outgoing and collaborative leader who has strong people management skills as well as excellent communication and administrative abilities to be the next Assistant Library Director.
Concord, Massachusetts, (18,000 pop.) is a historic New England community with an internationally known literary tradition, vibrant neighborhoods, preserved open spaces, family-owned farms, and thriving commercial centers. The Library’s buildings and grounds are privately owned by the Library Corporation, a unique governance structure that has been in place for over 150 years. The library is also overseen by the Library Committee and supported by an active Friends of the Library volunteer organization.
The Main Library, in the heart of Concord, was recently renovated and now includes a makerspace, Children’s Library, dedicated Teen Lounge, study rooms, a fully outfitted large meeting room, and an expanded Special Collections archive. The Fowler Library branch in West Concord hosts vegetable and pollinator gardens, offers engaging programs for all ages, and is well connected to the local arts community. The new Assistant Director will work closely with staff, library and community partners and the Library Director to provide direct oversight of the library’s public programs and services. The Assistant Director is also responsible for master scheduling for the library, working with department heads to ensure that public service desks are appropriately staffed.
This spring the Library will finalize a new 3-year Strategic Plan. The Assistant Library Director is a key member of the Library’s Management Team who assists the Director in designing, developing, disseminating, and implementing the library’s policies and strategic initiatives. The next Assistant Director of the Concord Free Public Library will be joining a team of dedicated and caring staff, supported by a robust community of volunteers and citizens, with the time, space, and resources to innovate and explore in exciting new ways. This is a rare opportunity to help be a part of launching the next chapter of a library with an impressive history and an exciting future.
