Part Time Library Assistant - Teen Services, Milton Public Library (Milton)
The Milton Public Library is looking for a part-time paraprofessional to fill our Library Assistant position.
General Statement of Duties
Serves as an essential team member of the Teen Services department. Works with the Teen Librarian to provide programming and services in the Library’s Teen Space. Also, provides library services to patrons at public service desks, while working as an integral part of the Milton Public Library.
Supervision Received
Works under the general direction of the Teen Librarian. May also work under the direction of the Head of Circulation when appropriate, or independently when assigned.
Responsibilities
- Supervises large groups of middle school and high school students (6th - 12th grade) in the Teen Room during after school hours.
- Works with the Teen Librarian to offer programs and events in the Teen Room.
- Responsible for providing assistance to patrons at public service desks, including the Circulation Desk and the Children’s Room Desk. Duties include charging materials to patrons, helping them with accounts and entering data in the Library’s computer system. Duties also include maintaining the order of the collection, and gathering materials from the collection.
Work schedule
Schedule includes nights and weekends. This position will work five days a week, consisting primarily of afternoon shifts.
Qualifications
Education: Minimum requirement is a high school diploma; college degree preferred.
Experience: Two years of library or equivalent experience preferred. We are looking for someone with customer service experience and solid computer skills. Experience working with tweens and teens desirable.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry books and other library materials, push loaded book trucks, and operate a computer keyboard and barcode scanner. Willingness and ability to work in a variety of locations at the Library.
