Senior Library Assistant - Floater, Circulation Services, Brockton Public Library (Brockton)
The Senior Library Assistant is responsible for a variety of public service and circulation duties to support the daily operations of the Brockton Public Library.
Works at any of the service desks at one of the three BrPL branches when coverage is needed, as determined by a designated supervisor.
Provides full range of circulation services: charges, renews, reserves, and shelves library materials; issues library cards; processes overdue notices and reports.
Resolves scheduling problems in supervisor's absence.
Trains and supervises department personnel in supervisor's absence.
Accepts and/or processes inter-library loan requests.
Gives directional information.
Assists librarians in providing reference and reader's advisory services to patrons.
Assists librarians in working with community agencies and groups to extend library services to groups that under-utilize library resources.
Assists patrons using computer resources.
Prints and responds to reports from OCLN.
Inputs data into OCLN database.
Participates in workshop and training opportunities.
Assists patrons in using and troubleshooting microfilm readers and copy machines.
Answers telephone inquiries.
Shelf reads collection
Performs other duties as assigned by Library department heads, Assistant Director, or Library Director
Qualifications
Education and experience: High School Diploma or GED required; some college preferred.
Experience as a library assistant is required. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for these requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to assist in training and supervising assigned employees and/or volunteers.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Demonstrated knowledge of automated circulation systems required.
Working knowledge of PC computers and Microsoft office.
Ability to demonstrate initiative and work independently.
Ability to relate to patrons and staff with professional friendliness, patience, tact and resourcefulness.
Ability to converse in Spanish, Portuguese, French, Creole or another language spoken by one of Brockton's linguistic minority communities is desirable.
Ability to comply with scheduling requirements of BrPL.
