Description:
The Head of Adult Services and Access is responsible for planning, implementing, and promoting adult programming and collections, including book clubs, author talks, and community-wide reading initiatives. This position produces the library’s bi-monthly newsletter, in print and online, highlighting events, programs, and services. The position also oversees circulation operations and related library transactions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Adult Programming & Outreach
· Plan, coordinate, implement, and promote adult programs and events.
· Publish a bi-monthly newsletter in print and online.
· Create visually engaging materials using Canva.
· Provide technology assistance to patrons.
· Coordinate book clubs, including title selection, ordering, and facilitating discussions.
· Promote adult collections and programs through the website, newsletter, social media, local media outlets, and other community channels.
· Represent the Library at community meetings and collaborative events with local organizations and schools.
Circulation & Access Services
· Oversee and perform circulation services, including check-in/check-out, patron registration, issuing library cards, placing holds, processing interlibrary loans (ComCat), and meeting room reservations.
· Maintain circulation records in Sierra; manage fines, lost or damaged materials, overdue notices, and related reports.
· Handle cash transactions and maintain the cash drawer with accuracy.
· Respond to public inquiries in person and by phone; provide general library information and basic reader’s advisory; refer patrons to appropriate staff as needed.
· Process, package, and distribute materials for interlibrary loan and delivery; pull damaged or missing items.
Collections & Displays
· Perform collection development duties, including selecting, ordering, inventory and weeding materials.
· Be familiar with the latest collection development trends.
· Create and maintain engaging book and display exhibits within the Library.
Supervision & Administrative
· Works under the general direction of the Library Director.
· Supervise Library Technicians and Pages, including assigning and reviewing work, training, and providing input on performance.
· Generate and review circulation statistics, financial reports, and other operational reports.
· Guide staff in shelving, book repair, emptying book drops, opening and closing procedures.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Requirements
· A Master’s degree in library science.
· Experience with library management systems. Must have some experience working with Sierra and the Minuteman network.
· Experience with Canva.
· Five (5) years of related experience is preferred.
Tools and Equipment
Personal computers and peripherals, library management software, general office equipment, and non-motorized equipment such as book carts.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a public library setting with regular interaction with patrons. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Physical Requirements
Frequent standing, sitting, listening and responding. Occasional lifting and moving of materials up to 30 pounds. Requires visual acuity for computer and document review and manual dexterity for keyboarding and handling materials.
