Program & Outreach Coordindator, Lawrence Public Library (Lawrence)
The Program & Outreach Coordinator supports the Library’s mission by coordinating, promoting, and facilitating programs and outreach initiatives that reflect the diverse needs of the community. This position works collaboratively across all library departments to provide administrative and logistical support for programs, while ensuring that outreach activities are unified and inclusive.
In addition, the Program & Outreach Coordinator contributes to the library’s digital equity efforts by serving as a resource for patrons seeking help with digital literacy and connectivity, complementing departmental services without duplicating programming or collections work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Program and Event Support:
Coordinate the master library program calendar by working with department heads to ensure programs are scheduled efficiently and complement each other.
Provide logistical support for programs, such as space setup, supply procurement, and assistance with registrations or attendance tracking.
Ensure all program spaces are prepared for successful delivery and maintain an inventory of shared program materials and equipment.
Outreach and Community Engagement:
Assist department heads with outreach efforts, including promoting programs and library services to local organizations, schools, and community groups.
Represent the library at offsite events such as fairs, festivals, and community meetings, ensuring consistent branding and messaging.
Identify and cultivate relationships with community partners to support library initiatives and share leads with relevant staff for follow-up.
Promotion and Marketing:
Develop marketing materials (flyers, social media content, press releases) to promote library programs and services in coordination with staff.
Maintain displays and signage related to programs, outreach, and digital inclusion opportunities.
Track attendance, collect statistics, and report outcomes for programs and outreach activities.
Qualifications
• A bachelor’s degree in a related field; communication, community development marketing, education, etc. Candidates who have not yet completed their degree may also be considered, provided they will fulfill all degree requirements within one (1) year from the date of hire. • Background in program coordination, outreach, or event planning required. • Customer service experience and familiarity with digital literacy concepts preferred. • Excellent organizational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously. • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments without duplicating or overriding the work of department heads. • Critical Skills and Aptitudes: • Ability to coordinate programs and outreach activities in a collaborative, supportive manner. • Strong interpersonal skills with sensitivity to working with patrons and partners from diverse backgrounds. • Ability to teach and explain basic technological concepts related to internet services, devices, and online platforms in plain language. • Flexibility, creativity, and initiative in supporting a dynamic range of library activities. • Strong commitment to the library’s mission of inclusivity, accessibility, and community engagement.
