Department Assistant, Grafton Public Library (Grafton)
The Town of Grafton is seeking a professional, detail-oriented, and motivated individual to serve as Department Assistant for the Grafton Public Library. This role supports the Library Director and the Board of Library Trustees in carrying out the daily operations and long-term goals of the Library. The position requires strong communication skills, a collaborative approach, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Position Overview
The Department Assistant plays a key role in ensuring the smooth function of the Library’s administrative office. Responsibilities include assisting with day-to-day operations, managing various forms of correspondence, supporting grants and long-range planning, preparing Trustee meeting materials, maintaining departmental documents, and coordinating with staff, Trustees, Friends of the Library, and members of the public.
Additional duties include scheduling and payroll assistance, proofreading correspondence and reports, maintaining internal databases, managing meeting room reservations, and supporting programming, procurement, social media, and public relations efforts.
Qualifications
Candidates should demonstrate:
-Exceptional communication skills, including written, verbal, and interpersonal abilities.
-Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
-A proven ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues, Trustees, vendors, and the public.
-Comfort working in a fast-paced, interruption-prone environment while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
-Confidence using a variety of computer software, electronic resources, and office technology.
-Familiarity with social media management and willingness to support the Library’s communication and outreach efforts.
Minimum requirements include a high school diploma and 1–3 years of related experience, preferably in a municipal or public-facing setting. Knowledge of public library services is preferred.
Schedule
This is a 35-hour per week position. The schedule includes:
-One evening per week
-Every other Saturday, with the preceding Friday off
-Additional hours may be required for occasional meetings or library-related events.

$43,771.00 - $48,188.00 / year
Salary Notes
Pay commensurate with qualifications, and benefits as set forth in the union's collective bargaining agreement.
