Librarian II- Collection Services, The Public Library of Brookline (Brookline)
The Public Library of Brookline is seeking a highly skilled, motivated and patron-focused Librarian to join our team in the Collection Services department at the Public Library of Brookline.
This position involves performing administrative, direct service, and professional work in classifying, cataloging, and processing print and non-print materials for the library. The Librarian II – Collection Services will be responsible for processing and maintaining the Library’s “Library of Things” collection.
The Librarian II - Collection Services performs a wide variety of tasks which may include but not be limited to:
•Catalogs and processes library materials. Verifies cataloging and classifies all types of library materials for the general collection, including world languages and Library of Things. Does original cataloging of Brookline Room materials. Creates brief records in MLN database, when needed.
•Develops and maintains one or more collections. Maintains the budgets for assigned collections.
•Exchanges materials and information with the Minuteman Library Network (MLN) centralized cataloging department. Works with MLN to ensure the library complies with network lending agreements and metadata standards.
•Trains, assigns work, and provides limited supervision to Library Assistants and volunteers.
•Provides information and assistance to library patrons as necessary. May be assigned to reference or other public service desk as needed. Performs similar or related work as required.
•Serves as Person in Charge as assigned. Has sole charge of the building and all staff working at that particular time/day.
Qualifications
Master's of Library and Information Science degree, supplemented by additional training in library technology, and two -three years of experience in library operations is required. Familiarity with Dewey classification, OCLC MARC records, AACR, Resource Description and Access (RDA), descriptive cataloging practices, authority control, and serial control. Knowledge of foreign languages in Spanish, Chinese, or Russian is highly desired. Must have excellent communication skills.
