Makerspace Coordinator, Medway Public Library (Medway)

Under the general direction of the Library Director and Circulation Supervisor, the Makerspace Coordinator will be responsible for developing and delivering innovative maker programming, training and supervising Makerspace volunteers, and maintaining the space, equipment, and materials. The ideal candidate will have exemplary communication skills, an interest in supporting and building a culture of inclusion for patrons of all ages, and a passion to serve the Medway community. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
● Develops and implements new and emerging technology, services, and projects for the makerspace.
● Keeps informed about trends in the Maker community and participates in relevant committees.
● Operates and maintains makerspace hardware (3D printers, sewing machines, and other equipment).
● Provides technology instruction to patrons and staff, one-on-one and in a group setting.
● Reaches out to the community to engage a diverse group of people in participating in STEM and craft programs.
● Recruits and coordinates volunteers to provide STEM and craft programming.
● Participates in budget planning for Makerspace activities.
● Writes procedure manuals for Makerspace.
● Troubleshoots hardware and software issues.
● Maintains, updates, and ensures accuracy of Makerspace equipment.
● Works both individually and collaboratively with colleagues, and community groups to envision, plan, present, and promote programs and activities.
● Identifies grants and other funding operations to support public programming.
● Compiles Makerspace records and statistics, prepares monthly and annual Makerspace reports for Director and Library Trustees.
● Oversees the inventory of all Makerspace supplies; places and receives orders as necessary.
● Troubleshoots minor multi-function printer operating problems.
● Oversees Makerspace volunteers
● Has access to confidential information and performs duties that require constant attention to detail and accuracy.
● Participates in professional development to gain additional knowledge and skills and shares new knowledge and skills with colleagues as appropriate.
● Handles complaints and suggestions in a professional manner and refers them to the appropriate staff member.

Qualifications

● 1-3 years of public library experience preferred.
● Ability to effectively troubleshoot and problem solve a variety of hardware and software problems, including software and hardware that may be initially unfamiliar.
