Part Time Young Adult Librarian, Elizabeth Taber Library (Marion)
The part time Young Adult Librarian will provide a full range of library services to the patrons of the Elizabeth Taber Library, with a focus on tweens and teens. Specific services will include programming, collection development, and readers advisory.
The YA librarian is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive programming schedule for the benefit of tweens and teens, including evening and weekend activities.
Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
-Provides general circulation desk duties
-Engages with makerspace and provides makerspace training to all interested patrons
-Manages teen volunteer program including recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers
-Lends support to our children’s department when needed for programming and department planning
-Maintains an engaging and safe environment for children and teens
-Develops, organizes, and maintains young adult collections. Analyzes collections for development needs. Reads, reviews, and select books and other material for purchase
-Advocates for youth and youth services with schools and other community agencies and provides community outreach to serve youth.
-Attends professional library conferences, seminars and network committees; reads professional literature; attends and participates in staff meeting discussions.
-Compiles, reviews, and interprets statistical data regarding use of youth services. Prepares regular management reports for review by the director.
-Participates in all aspects of the library’s planning process to represent and support youth services.
-Develops Young Adult Summer Reading Program, including reading programs and active programming elements
This is a part time position, 16-18 hours a week including at least one evening a week, and occasional Saturdays.
Qualifications
MLIS or equivalent experience preferred, experience planning and implementing youth programming preferred.
