Substitute Librarian, Bedford Free Public Library (Bedford)
The Bedford Free Public Library is seeking a flexible, service-oriented Substitute Librarian to provide coverage at both the Reference and Youth Services desks. This is an on-call position that offers the opportunity to work with patrons of all ages in a welcoming public library.
The ideal candidate will provide excellent customer service, assist patrons with research and technology questions, offer readers’ advisory, and help patrons navigate library resources and services. At the Youth Services Desk, the librarian will assist children, parents, caregivers, and educators with finding materials, using library resources, and answering questions.
Key Responsibilities
-Provide friendly, knowledgeable, and responsive service at the Reference and Youth Services desks.
-Answer reference, research, readers’ advisory, and general information questions for patrons of all ages.
-Assist patrons with the library catalog, electronic resources, databases, computers, mobile devices, and other technology.
-Assist patrons in finding materials and navigating the library’s collections, resources, and services.
-Interpret and communicate library policies and procedures.
-Maintain awareness of current library services, collections, resources, and procedures.
-Perform other duties as assigned.
Schedule
Days, evenings, and weekend shifts (Sundays at time-and-a-half) are available but will vary to meet the needs of the Library.
Qualifications
-Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science (MLIS candidates will be considered)
-Strong written and oral communication skills
-High level of comfort with technology
-Demonstrated commitment to excellent patron service
-Experience with library technologies, including Sierra ILS or similar systems preferred
