Librarian -- Teen Services, Grafton Public Library (Grafton)
The Town of Grafton is seeking a collaborative, creative, and forward-thinking librarian to join our Teen Services Department. This role supports a wide range of library services under the general direction of the Head of Teen Services. We’re looking for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, communicates clearly, and enjoys juggling multiple responsibilities with confidence and professionalism.
Most importantly, the ideal candidate is genuinely excited to work with teens. We’re seeking someone who is comfortable engaging with the Teen/Tween community, understands their evolving needs and interests, and approaches this population with respect, enthusiasm, and a welcoming attitude.
Position Overview
This position plays a key role in Teen Services operations, including circulation support, patron assistance, programming, marketing, and collection maintenance. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Managing the department in the absence of the Head of Teen Services
-Developing, planning and implementing teen-focused programs, events, and displays
-Enforcing library policies and responding to patron inquiries and correspondence
-Assisting with marketing efforts through newsletters and social media
-Registering new borrowers and assisting patrons with materials and room reservations
-Shelving and maintaining the Tween and Teen collections
-Attending workshops, trainings, and professional development opportunities to stay current with library services and emerging teen trends
Schedule
This is an 18-hour per week position. The schedule includes:
-Three evenings per week
-Every other Saturday, with the preceding Friday off
-Additional hours may be required for occasional meetings or library related events.
Qualifications
Candidates should demonstrate:
-Genuine enthusiasm and comfort working with Teen/Tween patrons in a respectful, engaging manner
-Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
-A collaborative spirit and the ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues, Trustees, vendors, and the public
-Knowledge of library services, best practices, and informational resources
-Comfort working independently while maintaining accuracy and professionalism
-Strong organization and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment
-Confidence using a wide range of technology, software, electronic resources, databases, and office tools
A Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or a related field is preferred, along with one to two years of relevant experience. Equivalent combinations of education, training, certification, and experience will also be considered.

This is a Grade 4 union position, with benefits as set forth in the collective bargaining agreement.
