Librarian, (Temporary Leave Replacement), Noble and Greenough School Putnam Library (Dedham)

Dates: January 4, 2027–June 11, 2027 

Reports to: Co-Director of the Putnam Library Emily Tragert

Position Summary
This full-time, semester-long position offers the opportunity to join a vibrant school library department and support the library program through reference work, research instruction, programming, collection management, and other library projects.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
-Staff the reference desk and assist patrons with circulation, reference, research, and readers’ advisory requests.
-Plan and staff library programming for students and employees, including book clubs, crafts, and other project- or community-based activities.
-As a part of the library’s robust research program, teach research skills and assist student research, and meet individually with students.
-Perform cataloging and collection management tasks and projects, including cataloging new additions to the collection, editing older catalog records, weeding, and managing interlibrary loan requests.
-Design library book displays.
-Perform library opening and closing tasks.
-Monitor student behavior and enforce library rules.
-Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

-A master’s degree in library science or at least two years of full-time work in a library is required. 
-Knowledge of library systems and procedures, including cataloging, circulation, readers’ advisory, and reference work.
-Research instruction experience preferred.
-Experience working with young people or in a school environment.
-Strong organizational skills and ability to collaborate effectively.
-Commitment to customer service, connection, and community.
-Commitment to the ethical and responsible use of information.
-Ability to lift 25 pounds.
-Availability to close the library at 4:30 p.m. several days per week.
