Reference Librarian, Plymouth Public Library (Plymouth)

The Plymouth Public Library is a busy library with almost 200,000 visits a year. Plymouth is a growing community with plenty of outreach opportunities and the budget to support staff projects. 

The Reference Librarian is expected to perform the following duties:

Plan, implements, manages, and evaluates library services to increase circulation and use of the library.

Plans, organizes, and maintains library materials/collections.

Maintains professional affiliations and attends professional seminars.

Identifies and prepares grant applications in conjunction with library administration to supplement and improve library services.

Assists in budget preparation, inventory, and scheduling of staff.

Participates in the development of library policy and materials for recommendation to the Board of Library Trustees.

Provides customer service to the public at large, including telephone and email inquiries, computer assisted research, and bibliographic instruction.

Provides support as library liaison with other organizations and individuals in the community. Serves as Library’s expert in intellectual freedom, first amendment rights, and patron privacy issues. Educates library staff in this area through in-house training.

Assists in the hiring, training, development, and evaluation of the staff and provides direct supervision of employees within the section.

Maintains familiarity with the operation and day to day maintenance of library equipment and automated systems. Compiles accurate records and completes statistical reports in a timely manner.

Works independently or with other library staff to plan, publicize, implement, and evaluate programs and activities both at the libraries and at off-site locations.

Creates displays, posters, flyers, articles, and social media posts to promote the collection and publicize library events and services

Maintains a strong understanding of library services and policies. Assists with meeting room reservations and technology.

Manages public databases and electronic resources.
