Collection Management Assistant for Special Collections (Part-Time) Frances Loeb Library, Frances Loeb Library (Cambridge)

The Frances Loeb Library is seeking a part-time Collection Management Assistant to work with special collections archivists and librarians, with a focus on the Kenzo Tange collection. This is an excellent opportunity to gain archival collection management and project management experience. Reporting to the Collections Strategy Team Lead and working closely with Collections Team members and the conservator, the individual in this position will provide support for optimizing access to and storage of archival collections.  

This is a 14-hour-per-week, year-round position. Preference will be given to graduate students.

Hours are flexible but must be scheduled Monday-Friday 9am-6pm.

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
·       In collaboration with special collections archivists and librarians, develop a plan for rehousing and remote storage of a variety of archival materials currently stored on-site, consisting primarily of documents, flat drawings, and photographs. The plan must consider conservation best practices, research and instruction needs, and collection access and usability.

·       Update finding aids in ArchivesSpace as needed.

·       Implement rehousing and storage activities. May include coordination of student workers.

·       Meet with library conservator and Collections Management Archivist weekly.

·       Using LibGuides, the Frances Loeb Library website, the Harvard CURIOSity digital collections gallery, and/or other online tools, create user-friendly access to digitized material from the Kenzo Tange collection

Qualifications

·       Experience handling special collections materials. Sensitivity to proper care and handling of special collections materials. 

·       Completion of a graduate-level introductory archives course, or a previous position related to special collections. 

·       Ability to lift boxes up to 40 pounds on a regular basis

·       Ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks, be flexible, and balance priorities.

·       Excellent communication and organizational skills and attention to detail. 

·       A commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population.
