Head of Circulation Everett Public Libraries, Everett Public Libraries (Everett)

Performs professional and supervisory tasks at the Circulation Desk. The work is performed under the general direction of the Library Director. General supervision is exercised over all Library Assistants and Part-time Aides. The Head of Circulation is expected to work 35 hours per week with alternating Saturdays and one evening shift. General Job Description;

1. Supervisory Duties- Oversee the operation of the Circulation Desks and the automated library system. a. Train all Circulation Assistants and Aides b. Maintain workflow c. Provide direct public service at the Circulation Desks, including policy explanation, complaint resolution, problem solving, patron registration, fine collection and circulation of materials. d. Participate as a member of the library programming team. e. Assist in writing circulation policies f. Assist in the hiring process of Library Assistants and Aides g. Keep abreast of trends and technology in circulation services. Routinely evaluate procedures and recommend improvements and modifications.

2. Library Materials Management a. Recommends fiction and non-fiction materials to appropriate selector b. Maintain paperback collection; c. Manages the stacks; including weeding and Inventory

3. Other Duties a. Acts as advisor for staffing the Circulation Desks. b. Prepare necessary reports and collect statistics regarding circulation of Museum passes and other materials c. Attend library meetings and participate in professional activities d. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Broad reading background; ability to supervise, ability to interpret community interests and needs, ability to develop systems and methods to get maximum use out of library materials and personnel; ability to evaluate and incorporate ascending technologies: ability to meet and deal with people effectively; ability to discern reader interest level; ability to foster a friendly and supportive attitude toward patrons and ability to foster cooperation among staff. Knowledge of the Evergreen system. Physical Demands: The employee is frequently required to stand for a period of time. He or she must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

MLS preferred; college degree required, previous library experience in an automated network required, supervisory experience required.
