Events & Marketing Coordinator, Northeastern University (Boston)

The Northeastern University Library invites applications for the role of Events and Marketing Coordinator, an essential position in a dynamic academic hub that is open 24/7 and sees more than two million visitors a year.

Reporting to the Library’s Director of Communications, the Events and Marketing Coordinator works closely with Communications Office staff, the Director of Development, student organizations, and other stakeholders within and outside the library to:

·plan and coordinate library-sponsored events

·promote events, workshops and other programming using a variety of channels

·support various marketing efforts including social media outreach and the production of print and online materials

The Events and Marketing Coordinator also helps to assess community needs and interests and plan for future events, programs, and other campaigns that showcase library services and collections and connect the library with the Northeastern community. This position offers opportunities for creativity and trying new ideas in a supportive environment.

Key responsibilities include:

·Event Planning and Promotion: Working with staff across the library, plan and execute logistics for library-sponsored programming/events and library development/advancement events, including but not limited to room reservation, access privileges, catering, promotion, and assessment. Develop collaborative partnerships and co-sponsorship opportunities with student organizations and other campus offices/organizations for event planning and support. Act as primary room reservation contact for campus organizations, departments, and programs using library spaces for their events; provide guidance/best practices on event logistics. Monitor expenditures for events.

·General Marketing and Communications Support: Assist in the promotion of library services, collections, and workshops via social media and the library website, including utilizing tools to streamline workflows, organize messaging, and measure engagement. Assist in the production of print and digital copy for university and community audiences, including working with internal stakeholders across the organization and preparing copy for web and print publications such as annual reports, brochures, and other collateral. Maintain digital signage in the library.

·Supervision of Student Employees: Assist in hiring and training student employees to assist with event tasks, the creation of collateral, and other communications-related activities.


·Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as marketing or communications, or another in which writing and communicating information in a variety of formats is emphasized

·At least 1-3 years of experience planning and coordinating events

·Excellent written and oral communication skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy and ability to maintain confidentiality where necessary

·Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work successfully in a collaborative environment serving a culturally diverse community

·Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with minimal supervision, to balance competing priorities, to problem-solve in unpredictable situations, and to meet deadlines

·Willingness to assist others with a broad range of tasks, and to work occasional unusual hours as required by events

·Experience with social media and graphic design strongly preferred

·Experience working in a library or in higher education (including supervision of student employees) desirable
