Library Aide, Hazen Memorial Library (Shirley)

Hazen Memorial Library in Shirley has a Part-time opening for a Library Aide. This is a union position; 12 hours per week.

Rate: $14.22 per hour.

Duties: Circulation desk work providing all circulation functions for the library. Check out library items to patrons. Issue patron cards and enter patron records into automated circulation system (Evergreen). Check in and shelve materials upon being returned to the library. Perform routine processing and cataloging tasks. Assist patrons with online catalog, digital catalog, faxes, copy machine, computer usage, and printing. Answer simple reference questions in person and by phone. Help maintain the library in good order, including shelf reading. Run daily request list and retrieve items to fill interlibrary loan requests. Assist with basic clerical functions. Assist with the collection and record keeping of funds collected in the library in accordance with policy. Serve as a backup for other library staff in their absence. Perform other duties, as required.

Qualifications

Qualifications: Must be available to work evenings and Saturdays. Successful candidate will have a strong customer service orientation with good oral and interpersonal skills and attention to detail. Must be physically able to lift up to 30 pounds. Patience, ability to work with people of all ages, and strong computer skills required. High School diploma required, college desirable. Previous library experience and fluency in Evergreen ILS software is highly preferred.
