Librarian, Sawyer Free Library (Gloucester)

Gloucester, a beautiful small city of 30,000 on Cape Ann and one of the oldest in the commonwealth, will be celebrating its 400th in 2023. It is defined by its relationship to the sea, its long history of arts and innovation, and the diversity of culture and economic status represented by natives and newcomers. The library is located in the heart of the downtown as part of the sacred triangle with the Cape Ann Museum and the City Hall. The Sawyer Free Library, the largest on Cape Ann, provides innovative and responsive library services to residents and visitors.

This position is primarily focused on providing excellent public service, creating and implementing innovative programs, expanding community collaborations, and improving the user experience with a team of able and supportive professional and paraprofessional staff. The library administration is committed to your professional development hand in hand with advancing the library of the future. 


Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to work effectively with a diverse community of ages, abilities, cultures, and languages; demonstrated excellent customer service skills, e.g. kindness, patience, respect, and flexibility; knowledge of specialized applications such as library services platform, e-mail services, social media interfaces, web content management software, etc; fluency in Spanish, Portuguese or Arabic; self-directed, curious, experimental, and not afraid to fail.
