Young Adult/Youth Services Librarian, Townsend Public Library (Townsend)

The Townsend Public Library is seeking a Youth Services/Young Adult Librarian who is creative, enthusiastic, and energetic to join an outstanding team of librarians. This is a non-union benefitted position at 30 hours per week. Pay is $18.10 per hour.  

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

·         Perform routine circulation tasks.

·         Process books and materials for library collections including cataloging.

·         Perform reference and readers advisory services to students, young adults, parents and teachers using print and non-print resources.

·         Attend meetings as required.

·         Must be comfortable learning new technologies.

·         Participate in program planning and preparation with emphasis on school age children and young adults, including planning and implementation of summer and winter reading programs.

·         Perform other functions and projects as necessary.

·         Handle physical aspects of position which include, but are not limited to: standing, moving, sitting, manual dexterity required to operate office equipment (i.e. computer, copier), climbing and descending steps, and lifting up to 35 lbs.,ability to push/pull loaded carts.


Qualifications: Candidates must have an MLS or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and one or two years of relevant work experience.

. Other qualifications:

·         Must have experience working with youth.

·         Must have excellent customer service skills, including ability to establish good rapport with children, young adults and all patrons, while promoting a positive and enthusiastic environment.

·         Must be familiar with young adult and children’s literature and media.

·         Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·         Must have strong computer skills, ability to troubleshoot basic software issues and assist patrons in need.

·         Must have knowledge of social media.

·         Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Google, e-books and databases.

·         Must be comfortable with and prepared to work in all areas of the library.

·         This position requires afternoon, evening and weekend availability.
