Job Description:

The Director is the public face of the Massasoit’s Libraries. They lead and represent all consortia relationships and community connections. They serve on the HELM Working Group in order to ensure the groups governance serves its constituents.

This individual will develop and manage library services, collections, budgets, staff and physical environment for a two-campus library and services to additional site, and to work towards the integration of library functions within the academic programs of the college. The Director represents the library and its services to the college community by collaborating with the academic departments; represents the Library on campus-wide committees; represents library services to the outside community by fostering contacts with outside groups and organizations; communicates with colleagues and participates as the college’s representative as a member of library consortia, particularly MCCLPHEI; and, assumes an active role in professional library organizations.

Responsibilities and Duties:

·        The Director manages the library and library services; represents the library and its services to the college community.

·        Manages the library and library related services by leading, planning, developing, and coordinating all library operations for Brockton, Canton, and Middleborough.

·        Is responsible for the general operations of the departments, programs, and services to the faculty, staff, and students.

·        Allocates and administers library funds and prepares budget. Articulates and implements goals and objectives for library information services, programs, and collections to support the college’s mission.

·        Represents the library and its services to the college community by collaborating with the academic departments to develop goals and objectives which meet the learning and instructional support needs of the academic programs.

·        Assume a leadership role in improving the library’s technology.

·        Collaborates with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the public for establishing and developing Library services.

·        Represents the Library on campus-wide committees.

·        Represents library services to the outside community by fostering contacts with outside groups and organizations. Communicates with colleagues and participates as the college’s representative as a member of library consortia, particularly Higher Education Libraries of Massachusetts (HELM) and Massachusetts Commonwealth Consortium of Libraries in Public Higher Education Institutions (MCCLPHEI). Assumes an active role in professional library organizations.



·       Master’s Degree in Library (MLS) or Information Science (MLIS) from ALA accredited school

·       At least three years plus demonstrated progression of increasing administrative and fiscal responsibilities

·       Understanding of current trends in libraries and technology

·       Practical experience with information technology as a tool of research and education

·       Experience collaborating with academic and administrative departments

·       Fiscal/Budgeting knowledge

·       Ability to function as a team member, consensus builder, motivator, and public advocate

·       Ability to develop collegial relationships with faculty

·       Excellent communication skills/interpersonal skills

·       Demonstrated leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications:

·       Experience in higher education and community colleges

·       Fluency in second language

·       Experience supporting campus/community relationships

Additional Information:

Position Status:  Non-unit Professional, full-time state funded with benefits.

Hours: Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. (Some evening and weekend hours when appropriate)

Salary: $70,979.00 - $92,272.00   Commensurate with education and experience.

Worksite: Brockton Primary location (Canton and Middleborough when appropriate)
