Assistant to the Children's Librarian, Burlington Public Library (Burlington)

The Burlington Public Library is seeking to fill a vacancy for a part-time Assistant to the Children’s Librarian to perform paraprofessional, technical and clerical work work in support of our busy Children’s Department.  Major duties are described below; also performs other duties related to the primary scope of the position as required.

Provides reference, circulation, and reader advisory services to patrons in the Children’s Department
Assists the Children’s Librarian in developing and conducting programs, story times, and group visits
Creates publicity, book lists, and other promotional materials
Provides general support for the Children’s Librarian

This position is included within the Burlington Municipal Employees Association bargaining unit. Starting salary at Grade 6 of the BMEA contract is $21.72 per hour plus benefits

Part-time position, 20 hours per week.  Hours are Monday 10am-2pm, Wednesday 3:15-9:15pm, Thursday 3-8pm, and Friday 10am-3pm; the schedule includes one Saturday in a four-week rotation, from 9:45am-5:15pm with hours reduced during the regular work week to accommodate.  Opportunity to work Sundays and summer Saturdays as overtime shifts


Recommended minimum qualification of high school graduation and two years of library experience, preferably in a Children’s Department; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
