Library Services Platform Administrator, University of Massachusetts Amherst (Amherst)

Job Summary

Reporting to the Discovery Resources Management Systems (DRMS) Coordinator, the incumbent coordinates the maintenance, enhancement, and functionality needs of the library resource management system to support user needs.  Works in a collaborative, team environment and coordinates with staff in the UMass/Amherst Libraries and Five College staff to administer, support and customize the resource management system.  Advises department heads regarding system enhancements, revisions and implementation of workflow and procedures.

Essential Functions

·         Administer overall operation of the Library Services Platform; plan, organize and coordinate updates; coordinate dissemination of information about system releases, new functionality and new products; train library staff on various aspects of the system.

·         System administration responsibilities; performs configuration and supports functionality; adds and maintains reference data; create and maintain user accounts; create and maintain system notification sent to patrons; manipulate and import bibliographic record files into the library resource management system, automating when possible; extract and manipulate data files to support the data needs of the Library as a whole; develop macros and templates that provide efficiencies in work processes; create and maintain programs and scripts to enhance operations.

·  Manages library ticket system; reviews all incoming service requests and assigns tickets to appropriate person; resolves tickets in a timely and efficient manner.

·  Collaborate with Five Colleges and other external entitles related to the Library Services Platform; advise the Five Colleges ILS Coordinator concerning system enhancements and new products; serve on the Five Colleges or other consortia Committees as assigned.

Work collaboratively and effectively in support of the Libraries’ values to promote teamwork, diversity, equality, and inclusiveness within the Libraries and the campus; attend professional development activities as assigned or required to meet departmental goals and objectives; participate in the Libraries assessment program by collecting, maintaining, and recording usage statistics for monthly reports as needed; and serve on internal library 


·            Bachelor’s degree in Information Science/Technology, Computer Science, Business Information Systems, or related degree.

·            One – Two years of experience with automated library or enterprise systems.

·            Experience using Microsoft Office products.

·            Working knowledge of SQL, UNIX and XML.

·            Ability to learn new technologies and stay current with technical developments.

·            Experience migrating and implementing library systems.  Thorough knowledge of library resource management principles and functionality.  Understanding of web based applications.

·            Familiarity with records processing, including exporting, importing and overlaying database records.

·            Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as ability to deal with ambiguity, change and innovation.

·            Strong commitment to support the teaching and learning mission of the university, and the ability to interact effectively, productively and collaboratively across the Library.

·            Ability to manage projects, establish and adjust priorities, set performance expectations, work under pressure, be thorough and accurate, meet deadlines and work independently in order to achieve goals,  and direct work in a high-production, rapidly evolving setting.  To do so, have the ability to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities showing initiative and flexibility.

·            Strong service orientation and the ability to interact effectively and work productively and collaboratively with a variety of departmental colleagues and other Library staff.
