Library Aide, Pembroke Public Library (Pembroke)

Job Description: Non-Union Position
Town of Pembroke, Massachusetts
Position Title Library Aide
Responsibilities:
Manage the circulation desk, checking out and discharging materials
Register new library users and update accounts
Handle museum passes, public computer usage and meeting room reservations
Collect fines, fees and lost or damaged payments
Process library materials for circulation
Perform all duties of the library page
Assist with library programs
Assist with bulletin boards
Perform other tasks as needed 

Job Environment: Normal office environment with frequent interruptions to respond to patrons, customers, and other department personnel and also outside conditions.

Supervision:  Reports to the Circulation Department

Essential Functions:  Perform routine tasks necessary to the operation of the library with supervision. Hours include evenings and Saturdays for both part time or full time positions. Current schedule is for 8-12 hours per week. May be asked to work additional shifts if and when needed.

Hours may include days, evenings & Saturdays. $17.03 per hour.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
·         Must have a high school or GED diploma
·         Must be able to operate and troubleshoot computers, scanner, fax and other library equipment
·         Must be able to type accurately at least 25 words per minute
·         Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and follow directions
·         Must demonstrate the ability to alphabetize and arrange materials by the Dewey Decimal System

Recommended Qualifications:
·         At least 6 months satisfactory experience working as a page in a high school, college or public library
·         Completed some college courses

Special Requirements:
Possess telephone courtesy and excellent customer service skills
Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated customer service ability to deal with a full spectrum of staff and public contacts
Present a clean, neat and professional appearance
 

Knowledge, Ability and Skill:Knowledge:
  Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System and alphabetical arrangement of materials
  Working knowledge of computers, fax, and other library equipment

Ability: Excellent customer service skills and the ability to deal effectively with the public
Skill: Must demonstrate ability in typing, clerical and computer skills
Physical Requirements: May spend extended periods of time at computer terminal, on the telephone, or operating other office machines, requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
Normal vision is required for this position.
Regular lifting and carrying of files, documents, records, etc. is routine.
Employee will be required to talk, listen, sit for long periods, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach.
