Director, Kelley Library (Salem, NH)

 The Kelley Library Board of Trustees, of Salem NH, is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, community
oriented leader with proven management and supervisory skills to manage and direct the operations of
its library. The Library Director’s vision for the future should incorporate a thorough understanding of
emerging technologies as well as a deep understanding of library principles, practices, issues and trends.
The Library Director reports to the Board of Trustees and is responsible for overall operations of the
library including but not limited to the development and monitoring of the annual operating budget,
overseeing personnel, facility management, and administering programs and services. The Director will
attend monthly Trustee meetings and other local government meetings during the budget process. The
Director will build partnerships with local groups and organizations in order to foster relationships that
will benefit the library and community. The director will support library staff to reach their professional
goals. The Director will engage in a process of continuous reflection and improvement of library services
through a customer centric lens. Kelley Library is a member of GMILCS library consortium and the
Library Director will participate in the boards and committees within that organization. 

 About the area
Salem NH is an economically diverse bedroom community for the Metro- Boston area with easy access
to Route 93. Salem has approximately 30,000 residents. Salem has invested in its public schools with a
newly renovated high school and 5 recently refurbished elementary schools for its’ approx. 3,600
students. Salem also offers a small number of private and charter schools. In addition, Salem boasts the
most active senior center in the state. Salem is a growing community with several 55+ housing
opportunities and a 170 acre mixed use development. Salem NH borders Massachusetts and its’ retail
industry thrives due to New Hampshire’s lack of sales tax. Salem is an ideal community in which to live,
work and play for families and professionals. 


 The ideal candidate will hold an MLS or MLIS from an accredited school and will have 10 years of diverse
and progressively more responsible supervisory experience in public libraries.

● Working with town/city boards
● As a manager and supervisor of personnel
● In facility management and capital projects
● Providing exceptional customer service
● Creating and executing an annual budget
