Special Collections Assistant, Adams Library, Rhode Island College (Providence, RI)

Rhode Island College’s James P. Adams Library seeks a part-time (up to 19 hours/week) Special Collections Assistant to assist the Digital Archivist & Special Collections Librarian with archival processing, digitization, research and other projects to promote and facilitate access to the library’s special collections.

Duties include but are not limited to:

          ·  Organizing and rehousing of archival collections

          ·  Creating finding aids

          ·  Data entry

          ·  Staffing the Reading Room to assist and monitor researchers as needed

          ·  Digitizing print and photographic materials

          ·  Metadata creation for digital collections

Qualifications

Required:

          ·  Good organization skills

          ·  Attention to detail

          ·  Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing

          ·  Basic computer skills, including familiarity with the MS Office suite and willingness to learn new software tools

          ·  Ability to work independently and with others

          ·  Historical research skills and interest in history

          ·  Bachelor’s degree

          ·  Library special collections or archives experience, or relevant coursework completed

Preferred:

          ·  MLS/MLIS or enrollment in a master’s program for library and information science

          ·  Experience using databases

          ·  Familiarity with Photoshop and other Adobe applications
