Library Director, Beverly Public Library (Beverly)

The Beverly Public Library seeks candidates for the position of Library Director.

Beverly is a city of 41,000, located in the heart of the North Shore of Boston. Beverly offers a vibrant downtown, unique for its number of independent businesses and restaurants as well as a lifestyle rich in historical, artistic, academic and outdoor resources. There are 2 colleges located within our city: Montserrat College of Art and Endicott College.

The director is responsible for all phases of library operation. The library is staffed with 21 FTE members, with a FY2020 budget of $2 million, and maintains a collection of 130,000 items. Over 26,000 registered borrowers circulate more than 375,000 annually, and over 17,000 people attended 806 programs in FY2019. The director is also responsible for a branch library in Beverly Farms, as well as a popular Bookmobile. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to public service and will be an inspired and collaborative leader.


Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from a graduate school program accredited by the American Library Association, 3+ years progressively responsible experience in public library administration.

Proven leadership with a commitment to outstanding public service.

Strong management abilities with expertise in strategic planning and budgeting.

Interest in collaborating with NOBLE, a consortium of 26 public and academic libraries.

Appreciation of a community’s diverse needs.

Skilled at motivating staff.

Strong technology skills.

Knowledge of maintenance and construction inherent in maintaining and improving a library facility.

Ease in collaborating with public officials and community organizations.

Insightful financial management.

Willingness to work wherever needed within the library.

Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000
