Director, Berkley Public Library (Berkley)

Berkley is a scenic, rural town in Southeastern, MA with a population of approximately 7,000. Speckled with farms and woodland and bordered by the Taunton River, the town offers opportunities for hiking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and bicycling. The library is a historic Carnegie building located on the picturesque Town Common.

The Library Director is responsible for the management and daily operation of the library including hiring and supervising library staff, and the development and implementation of library services and programs. Duties include providing outreach services; budgeting, financial records and grant writing, strategic planning; overseeing building maintenance and repairs, collection development and social media.  Must provide excellent customer service to patrons and be willing to work in all areas of the library as needed. The Director works with the Trustees to develop policy. The successful candidate should be a positive representative of the library adept at developing community partnerships, positive public relations, and have a willingness to campaign for a future building project. The Director works collaboratively with the Library Trustees, Town Officials and the Friends of the Library. 


Strong managerial, organizational and communication skills. Knowledgeable or willing to learn grant writing, strategic planning, preparation of annual budget and circulation. Strong computer and internet skills with a fluency in new technologies. Familiarity with eBooks, downloadable Audiobooks, Facebook, online databases. Excellent customer service skills. Library or supervisory skills a plus. Must hold or apply for a Certificate of Professional Librarianship.
