Children's Librarian II, Winthrop Public Library and Museum (Winthrop)

     This is a professional librarian position that is responsible for many aspects of library services within the Children's Department.  Works under the direction of the Children's Librarian I and the Library Director and assists in the implementation and management of all children’s services which may include acquisitions, collection development, cataloging, circulation, technology, physical arrangement of the space and staff.  The librarian must maintain currency in emerging library trends, developments in all areas of children’s literature and services, as well as library computer technology including our catalog and databases.  This librarian also makes recommendations to and advises the Children’s Librarian I in all aspects of children’s services.  May need to work evenings and weekends.  This librarian may supervise the Library Assistants who work in the children’s room.  

      Children’s Librarian II assists in training all other staff in the tasks and functions of the children’s room.  Generates reports as needed and attends network meetings or training as required.  Works with the Winthrop School system to coordinate programs and activities for children.  Demonstrates considerable customer service skills.  The Children’s Librarian II is directly responsible for working with teens.  This position plans and implements teen programming and outreach.  

     The Winthrop Public Library has an attractive, newly-renovated and busy Children's Room with a full calendar of programs that attract many families.  We're looking for an energetic professional to join us. 


     A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution is required.  Previous experience in a public library’s children’s room is highly desirable.  Demonstrated supervisory skills desirable.  Knowledge of automated library systems and computer skills essential.  Pleasant demeanor, flexibility, ability to work independently or in a team, and being well-read are highly desirable.  Knowledgeable about trends in child development as it relates to literacy.  Top notch customer services skills and the ability to work well with a wide variety of patrons of all ages are necessary skills.  Full job description available upon request.
