Liaison Librarian for Chemistry and Physics, Boston College Libraries (Boston)

Boston College seeks a subject librarian for world class research and teaching in the Departments of Chemistry and Physics, particularly at a time when the new Schiller Institute for Integrated Science (coming online 2022) propels exciting growth in all related areas on campus.  The position calls for a creative, collaborative, user-centered librarian approach to collections, instruction and digital scholarship.

This position is the primary liaison to the faculty, graduate and undergraduate students in these departments for all library-related needs: apprising faculty of new materials, evolving services and research tools, as well as identifying and recommending innovative uses of technology for collecting, organizing, managing, storing and disseminating such information. Builds and maintains web pages and research guides to promote and facilitate access to library and appropriate collections, ensuring that all scholarly research needs are met and appropriate tools and methods are integrated into the Libraries' wider applications of digital pedagogy. Provides instructional services including virtual reference, consultations, in-person classes, online subject guides, and other instructional materials in support of science resources, services, and research workflow tools.  The specialized needs of chemical information, in particular, call for someone experienced in instruction and support of chemical information discovery in both textual and graphical formats. This position also requires awareness of the collection development issues inherent in the physical sciences, where scholarly communication and large publisher package issues loom large.  Consults with faculty in all of these departments on an ongoing basis, formally and informally, regarding their evolving research and teaching support needs. Participates in faculty meetings, as necessary, colloquia, and task forces as an integrated resource for the department.

Boston College Libraries subject liaisons work within a cohort organization managed and supported jointly by the Head of Collection Development, the Head of Digital Scholarship, and the Head of Educational Initiatives, and are expected to be fully engaged in each of these areas.  The Cohort Model has been created to leverage this high level of support in the three areas of expertise, as well as to foster a high level of collaborative work across the liaison group.  At the same time, liaisons are given a high level of freedom to take initiative and work independently in support of their disciplinary assignments.

Sr Level $62,650 - $78,300 (5+ years of experience)
Non Sr. $56,750 - $70,900 (1+ years of experience)

Boston College also offers a highly competitive benefits package.
