Library Assistant, Stevens Memorial Library (North Andover)

The Town of North Andover is accepting applications for one (1) Library Assistant on a part-time basis at the Stevens Memorial Library.  The Library is located at 345 Main Street, North Andover, MA.  It is a member of the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium and uses the SirsiDynix Symphony system.  The position works two (2) evenings a week (5-9 pm) and two (2) weekends a month (Saturday and Sunday) in a regular set rotation from Labor Day through Memorial Day.

Essential Job Functions
The position is responsible for performing routine public service duties at the Circulation Desk using an automated integrated library software system to check in and out materials, maintain patron database records, search for materials, and support the interlibrary loan process; to shelve and locate materials within the Library; to answer the telephone; and other related duties as assigned.


High school diploma or equivalent required, bachelor's degree preferred.  Public library circulation experience using automated integrated library system program desirable.  Candidate must have strong computer and technology skills; exceptional customer service skills; able to deal tactfully and effectively with the general public; able to articulate clearly and apply consistently both Library and Network Consortium policies; strong organizational skills and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; a high degree of flexibility and collaborated team skills essential; good language skills.
Physical Requirements:  Performs duties under typical library conditions.  Position requires frequent physical effort such as carrying books (up to 20-30 lbs.); push book carts (up to 150 lbs.), bending, stretching, grasping, etc. to retrieve library materials.  May require standing at counter-high desk for long periods of time.  Ability to view computer screens for extended periods and to operate computers, photocopiers, printers and other office-type equipment.

Compensation:  Grade S-6: $17.26 – $21.66   Position is not eligible for benefits and is subject to the terms and conditions of the Town of North Andover’s AFSCME - Clerical collective bargaining agreement:
