Electronic Resources Librarian, Brown University (Providence, RI)

The Electronic Resources Librarian provides leadership in developing and assessing the Library’s collection of electronic resources.  Working cooperatively with Library and other University staff, the Eresources Librarian ensures the consistency and accuracy of the information and accessibility of the Library’s electronic resources.  The Eresources Librarian is responsible for the assessment of electronic resources, and assists in the negotiation of their respective license agreements.  Manages the life cycle of renewals of electronic resources.  The Eresources Librarian arranges for product demos and also provides/arranges training for electronic products and services. Working cooperatively with the CSLA and the Head of Technical Services to ensure eresources are acquired, discoverable and maintained.

Responsibilities

●        Oversees the systematic collection and analysis of user data with a focus on scholarly impact and academic alignment.

●        Establishes baseline data (use stats, price data, license terms, scholarly impact, etc.) for collections management, both electronic and print.

●        Collaborates closely with the CSLA on all assessment activities.

●        Collects data to support University and Library initiatives, national and international higher education data stores (IPEDS, ARL, etc.), and accreditation reviews.

●        Coordinates all processing activities associated with electronic resources and ensures continuous access to those services. 

●        Collaborates with the Head of Technical Services to integrate eresource acquisitions and knowledge base management, and troubleshooting functions for maximum efficiency.  

●        Works with the CSDD to ensure efficient and accurate workflows in support of description and discovery of electronic resources.  

●        Provides advanced trouble-shooting of electronic resources and services for the Brown user community.

●        Responsible for development and maintenance of electronic resource management systems. 

●        Keeps abreast of developments in electronic resources to maintain current awareness of information tools and technology.

●        Assists in reviewing, negotiating, and managing license agreements.  

●        Arranges trials and pilot projects in collaboration with AE librarians and other stakeholders.  

●        Provides budgetary and financial analysis for electronic resources.

●        Maintains business relationships with vendors of electronic products and acts as a liaison between vendors and AE librarians.

●        Maintains relationships with relevant CIS staff and others to stay abreast of vendor developments affecting library eresources and build consensus for improvements, refine policies, and set priorities.

●        Monitors and contributes to the development of local, national, and international standards and policies; contributes to professional publications and forums; influences academic library practice accordingly.

●        Represents BUL in the Ivy Plus Library Confederation

●        Represents BUL on University-wide initiatives

Qualifications

Education and Experience

●       Required education: MLS degree from ALA-accredited program or equivalent

●       3 years of experience in research library acquisitions and electronic resources management

Job Competencies

●       Knowledge of complex license agreements between the Library and vendor/publishers

●       Knowledge of life cycle of electronic resources 

●       Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines

●       General knowledge of a range of software applications supporting access to online collections

●       Strong organizational, interpersonal and oral and written communication skills

●       Ability to work in a diverse and rapidly-changing environment

●       Ability to work effectively with vendor representatives, senior Library management, and others to deliver services

●       Previous experience with an ERM highly desirable

●       Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion as well as an understanding of the contributions a diverse workforce brings to the workplace
