Full-Time Library Technician II -- Bibliographic Services, Cary Memorial Library (Lexington)

Cary Memorial Library has one position available for a full-time Library Technician II in Bibliographic Services and Youth Services.

Do you love connecting people of all ages with books, tools, and toys to make their lives better? We are looking for a creative and detail-oriented person to join our team in Bibliographic Services and Youth Services. Cary is one of the busiest libraries in the state, with the second highest circulation per hour open. The successful candidate will enjoy working collaboratively in active, vibrant library spaces. In Bibliographic Services, Library Technicians prepare materials to circulate. They help to make library collections appealing and discoverable. Responsibilities include creating and working with catalog records, labeling, packaging, and repairing a variety of materials. In this position, you will be an important member of the Library of Things team, leading the cataloging and packaging of non-traditional materials for this popular collection.

The person in this position will staff service desks in Youth Services, in addition to their work in Bibliographic Services. Library Technicians help patrons find and use library materials and equipment, check materials in and out, handle deliveries from the Minuteman Library Network, and shelve. All staff members are encouraged to talk with library users about books, movies, and music, and have opportunities to get involved with programs, displays, and social media.

Schedule:  37 hours per week, including one evening per week, and one or two Saturdays per month. Additional nights and weekends as needed for programs and events.

Full position description is available at

The ideal candidate will hold an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education, certification and experience. They will demonstrate attention to detail, will work effectively as part of a team, and will show enthusiasm for helping patrons of all ages discover a wide range of books and media.  PC proficiency and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and web searching are required.  Experience using Sierra ILS software is preferred, although we will consider experience with other Integrated Library Systems.
