Archives Intern, Historic Architecture, Conservation, and Engineering Center, National Park Service (Lowell)

National Park Service, Region 1, Historic Architecture, Conservation, and Engineering Center (HACE) is seeking a novice archivist to assist us in getting our voluminous Historic Architecture Center archives into enough order to allow us to make decisions about cataloging and filing for reference versus sending batches of records to the National Archives.   The position is an internship through the Student Conservation Association.

The project is designed to fund the services of an archivist to organize and share the documentation and collections of HACE by creating databases, scanning existing documents to create digital copies, and producing digital photographs of collections.  These documents and collections include architectural drawings, contract documents, historic structures reports, materials analysis reports, conditions assessment reports, completion reports, legal and technical reviews which compose project files.  Also generated are historic building contract submittal samples; artifact collections, including paint samples, wallpapers, hardware; and various building elements such as fireplace mantels, doors, and window sashes.

The project scope also includes developing policies and procedures for managing and adding to the database.
