Online Research Librarian, Regis College (Weston)


Under general supervision of the Director of the Library and in close collaboration with the the Regis Online programs, this position is primarily responsible for providing online support and reference/research services for graduate level courses including information literacy instruction to the Regis Online student body, faculty, staff, and administration.


· Provide comprehensive research assistance for Regis’ expanding portfolio of fully online classes, including working cooperatively with other librarians, students, faculty and staff. Provides assistance via Moodle, Zoom, email, phone and in person. 

· Build strong relationships with faculty and students through the online community.

· Create research guides using LibGuides for students and faculty and teach information literacy online. 

· Attend meetings to discuss support for Regis Online students and faculty. 

· Evaluate reference and circulating collections as needed, suggesting acquisitions as well as de-selecting based on established criteria.

· Maintain statistical records for all reference services provided. Use assessment tools and statistics when appropriate to evaluate and improve services. Assess student needs and meet those needs effectively. 

Other Responsibilities

· Provide research help to on-ground students on a regular basis. 

· Participate in professional library organizations to keep abreast of new developments in library reference services.

· Perform other related duties as required.



· Master’s degree in library science or library information science (MLS/MLIS) and one to three years of related experience.

· Familiar with advanced (master’s level and beyond) nursing theory, nursing research, health science, and social work curriculum and resource needs. Experienced searching and instructing students in effective use of nursing and other databases.

· Ability to uphold the College’s commitment to inclusive excellence in a diverse educational community.

· Knowledge of current library information science principles and practices.

· Knowledge of resources, programs, and services available to libraries with thorough knowledge in the area of reference services.

· Demonstrated ability to search complex questions effectively using available databases. 

· Working knowledge of learning management systems, preferably Moodle; integrated library systems (ILS), preferably Sierra; computer programs; applications (preferably Zoom or willing to learn); and online databases. 

· Experience working with and building strong relationships within exclusively online communities and proven ability to provide support and collaborate with faculty in an online setting.

· Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing and project a positive public image and to provide superior customer service.

· Ability to work independently and to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other College departments, community groups, and other libraries. 

· Ability to supervise Library student employees in work tasks and functional duties if needed.

Supervisory Responsibility

· May supervise Library student employees. 

· Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Regis College’s policies and applicable laws.  

· May be responsible for opening or closing the Library alone. 

· Training as needed. 

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

· Normal office environment, not subject to extremes in noise, odors, etc.

· Regular interruptions to assist Library patrons.

· May spend extended periods at terminal or on telephone requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.

· May be required to walk, stand, bend, reach, and lift books and materials.
