Library Director, Sawyer Free Library (Gloucester)

 The Gloucester Lyceum and Sawyer Free Library seeks a new Library Director.  The venerable Gloucester library is a public-private partnership between the City of Gloucester and the Sawyer Free Library non-profit corporation. The Library is currently campaigning to raise funds to receive a Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners grant for the renovation of its building and campus.  The Library seeks a seasoned and ambitious leader who can join the Board in its efforts to bridge the Sawyer Free Library into its future.  The position offers place, passion, community and challenge. 

Qualifications

·         MLS from an ALA accredited library school is required

·         Minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional library experience, including management and supervisory experience, and considerable knowledge in the principles and practices of general administration and supervision.

·          Extensive knowledge of the methods, policies, practices, principles, and procedures of professional library work required.

·         Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience in public presentations, required.

·         Demonstrated proficiency in project management required.

·         Demonstrated experience with personnel management and budget preparation required.  Working knowledge of Quickbooks preferred.

·         Full proficiency in current library technology and G Suite required.

·         Experience in writing and obtaining grants, library renovations/expansions preferred.

·         Ability to manage facility/buildings and grounds.

·         Ability to work effectively with Board of Trustees, Mayor, City Council, staff and the public.

·         Ability to perform effective community outreach.
