Assistant Director, Wellesley Free Library (Wellesley)

Are you an experienced, organized professional who can juggle multiple tasks, change gears quickly, and work independently while playing a leading role in team management? The Wellesley Free Library seeks its next Assistant Director - a strong communicator who is a fearless, flexible and fun team leader.  In addition to being outgoing, confident, perceptive, and savvy, this position requires a high level of emotional intelligence. The successful candidate values: a positive attitude; the expertise of a knowledgeable staff; thoughtful innovation; and creative approaches to building upon the Library's history of excellent patron service.

The Assistant Director forms productive relationships and partnerships with community leaders, patrons, performers, donors, and libraries in Massachusetts. The Assistant Director supports the Director in transforming big ideas into strategic results-driven initiatives by recruiting, developing, and motivating an outstanding staff; by evaluating and delegating projects appropriately; by promoting inclusion and diversity; and by effectively communicating the Library’s mission, goals, and objectives to the broader Wellesley community.

The Town of Wellesley is an active and well-educated community located 15 miles west of Boston, MA. In fiscal year 2018, the Main Library and two branches served 398,169 visitors. 133, 368 questions were answered, 782,598 items circulated and 1,550 programs were held with 36,358 attendees. The Library maintains a collection of over 230,000 physical items and over 80,000 e-materials. Currently, the Library has a staff of over 60 people, totaling 37.2 FTE.
