Library Technology Specialist, Cambridge Street Upper School - Cambridge Public Schools (Cambridge)

The Cambridge Street Upper School (CSUS) was founded in 2012 as a middle school serving grades 6-8. Our sender schools are Cambridgeport School, Fletcher-Maynard Academy and the King Open School. Overview: 

Under the direction of the Upper School Head, and as a member of the Information, Communication, Technology Services (ICTS) department, the Library Technology Specialist is responsible for delivering, in a blended model, both school library services and instructional technology support to our racially and culturally diverse school community. Key responsibilities include:

Teacher

Empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, ethical users and producers of information (Digital Literacy) 
Work with students and instructional staff to strengthen the use of digital tools and media-rich resources to create original projects/products
Provide resources and programs that promote independent reading and writing in a variety of genres and reading levels
Educate students and staff on the district’s Acceptable Use Policy and other related policies and procedures that support appropriate use of technologies
Design, teach, and support professional learning opportunities for staff to increase proficiency with technology
Demonstrate commitment to continued personal and professional learning and growth around issues of race, equity and antiracist teaching and learning
Incorporate antiracist instructional practices that are mindful and celebratory of historically marginalized cultures and perspectives

Instructional Partner

Provide outreach to teachers to develop collaborative relationships to design, teach, and assess learning experiences that incorporate inquiry learning, multi-disciplinary literacies, critical thinking, and self-assessment
Collaborate with teachers and other instructional staff to develop curriculum that effectively integrates technology and ensures proficiency of the Massachusetts Digital Literacy and Computer Science Framework and AASL Standards Framework
Work with instructional staff to ensure the development of skills related to digital and information literacy are embedded into learning across content areas
Explore, evaluate, and model new technologies in support of teaching and learning
Take an active role in school and district curriculum and leadership teams

Information Specialist

Ensure that students and staff are effective and ethical users of ideas and information
Provide flexible access to all information and technology resources
Provide assistance in locating information and developing search strategy skills
Establish procedures for selection, acquisition, circulation, and sharing of print and digital resources
Develop, maintain, and promote a diverse collection of resources appropriate to the curriculum, the learners, and the instructional strategies of the school community        

Program Administrator

Oversee, manage and foster a creative, flexible and welcoming Learning Commons
Coordinate and support special events and programs such as guest authors and illustrators, authors in residence, family events 
Collaborate and network with community and outside agencies (public libraries, area universities, technology organizations)
Work with the ICTS department to develop, implement, and update the district Library and Technology Plan and incorporate principles into school technology planning
Work with the Technology Support Technician to create and maintain student, teacher and staff accounts in a variety of software and online applications
Maintain an up to date inventory of all library and technology resources in the building, including equipment location, repair records, replacement/upgrade, and available software; develop, manage, and communicate procedures for technology resource allocation
Provide onsite troubleshooting for technical difficulties within the building, including but not limited to software, hardware and connectivity problems common in digital learning environments

Qualifications

As the incoming Library Technology Specialist you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in the field of Education with advanced degree in the area of Library Science and/or Instructional Technology. 
Three years of teaching experience or equivalent in the field of library or technology preferred.
Experience working with diverse urban communities and a working knowledge of anti-racism and cultural proficiency.
Knowledge of Mac and Chrome operating systems and extensions, G Suite for Education, and interactive projectors/displays.
Experience in collaborative group work that focuses on technology integration and information literacy.
Massachusetts Licensure required in Library Media and/or Digital Literacy and Computer Science, both preferred.
