Student Engagement and Outreach Librarian, St. Mark's School (Southborough)

Located on 250 acres in the town of Southborough, Massachusetts and just 25 miles from Boston, St. Mark's School is a coeducational, college-preparatory school educating students in grades nine through twelve. Since the School's founding in 1865, St. Mark's has educated and prepared young people for lives of leadership and service. A highly motivated team of 70 faculty members leads 360 students through a rigorous curriculum and full program of co-curricular activities. 

St. Mark’s School seeks a full-time Student Engagement and Outreach Librarian with the ability to foster creativity and engagement amongst the student population. They will manage and maintain essential services in the library, including technology services, equipment usage, and the use of library resources, as well as provide outstanding customer service and support.  This is a 10-month, 40-hour per week salaried position.  Hours: Sunday – Thursday, 1:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Expected start date: late September 2020.



Essential functions, duties and responsibilities:

Community and Outreach

○        Create engaging programs and book displays that promote independent reading and writing in a variety of genres

○        Develop appropriate reading lists/readers’ advisory in conjunction with the community’s educational objectives

○        Initiate and/or manage programs to promote library services.

○        Manage the library’s social media presence (Facebook, twitter, Instagram, etc.)

○        Participate in the collaborative development, implementation, and evaluation of library services, policies, and procedures

○        Maintain an organized and welcoming facility that helps students become independent users of the library

○        Foster a creative, flexible environment so that the school library is an essential part of the learning community

Technology

○        Manage the copy machine (teach students how to use the machine, maintain paper supplies, etc.)

○        Maintain supplies for printer (paper, toner), student supply desk (paper, pencils, etc.)

○        Assist students, faculty, and staff in the operation of instructional technology equipment

○        Provide limited desk coverage and basics triage for students in support of the technology department on occasion

General librarianship

○        Monitor students as directed by the librarian

○        Supervise students during evening study hall

○        Staff the circulation desk

○        Shelve books, journals, DVDs, etc.

○        Perform minor book repair

○        Perform all functions necessary for the operation of the automated library system, i.e., circulation process

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Library Services or Chief Technology Officer

Qualifications

Experience preferred:

●      Enrollment or planned enrollment in an MLS program preferred

●      Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively with academically motivated students, faculty, staff, administrators, parents, alumni, and trustees

●      Must possess a positive attitude, strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team

●      Must enjoy working with teenagers from diverse backgrounds in an educational setting

●      Experience endorsing diversity and inclusion initiatives in a collaborative setting

●      A high level of integrity and an extraordinary work ethic



Qualifications and Education required:

●      Bachelor’s degree

●      Proficiency in working with digital library resources and databases, as well as web-based applications for online education

●      Proficiency in Microsoft and Google applications on both PC and Apple (Mac) platforms

●      Successful completion of a criminal records background check
