Contract Archivist, Haverhill Public Library (Haverhill)

The Trustees of the Haverhill Public Library seek a part time, contract archivist to manage the ongoing processing of local history, rare book, and genealogical collections. The Haverhill Public Library Special Collections is an extensive archive that has been undergoing an effort to gain intellectual control and proper preservation of the collection. The contract archivist will help to identify collections in need of preservation, recommend items for deaccessioning, and help to build finding aids; as well as similar other duties. This position reports directly to the Library Director, while working in concert with the Reference department when appropriate. This position is not a city employee and does not work directly with the public. The successful applicant should have a MLS with an archives concentration, or an equivalent degree, and direct, comparable experience. This position is 20 hours per week. It is not benefitted. The contract is for an initial six months, with the ability to renew if mutually agreeable.


MLS Degree with Archives Concentration, or Equivalent Degree

Experience working in a public archives setting

Knowledge of current archival standards and practices

Ability to communicate clearly to the Director and Board of Trustees what is lacking or needs to be done in Special Collections.

$30/hr, up to 20 hours per week
