Part-Time Library Assistant (2 Positions Available), Hudson Public Library (Hudson)

The Hudson Public Library has proudly served Hudson residents and neighboring communities since 1867. Our current location at Wood Square originally opened to the public in November 1905 and is approximately 15,000 square feet. Our team seeks to recruit candidates passionate about children's, teen, and adult library services, and are highly interested in engaging with our diverse community of nearly 20,000 residents.

Position Requirements:

Perform varied and responsible library duties requiring general knowledge and understanding of departmental operations. Provide library and circulation services to the public through the utilization of library technology, online public access catalogs, and interlibrary loans (ILLs). 

Register new patrons, maintain patron records, collect overdue fines and lost material payments, process billed item notices. Communicate with patrons, provide assistance, and direct them to other library staff and departments as required. Provide information, notifications, and service to patrons regarding their library accounts, including borrowed and reserved items. Conduct readers' advisory, reserve museum passes, and schedule meeting room reservations for patrons. Interprets and enforces library policies and regulations.

Assist in specialized areas such as reference services, youth services, administrative tasks, collection management, community outreach, library programs, publicity, policy, and communications as required.

Professional Knowledge & Skill Set:

Knowledge: Comprehends and possess a general understanding of the principles and practices of professional library work, technology, and public service. 

Abilities: Function effectively, tactfully, and courteously with library staff and the general public; interpret patron needs quickly and accurately; exercise considerable judgment and initiative to perform duties; complete projects on time with minimal supervision. Ability to work collaboratively in decision-making for enhancements in library services, collections, and procedures. Ability to learn, adapt, and utilize current and new technologies.

Physical abilities must include use of gross and fine motor skills to sit, stand, lift, shift, carry, reach, bend, push, walk, talk, listen, and handle various objects, tools, or controls.  Must occasionally lift and move up to 35 pounds.  Required visual and auditory abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus, and hear familiar sounds, distinguish sound as voice patterns, and communicate through human speech.

Skills: Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills; customer service relations; multi-tasking and organizational skills; technical applications and use of library technology and office equipment.  Fluency in Portuguese or Spanish is a plus. 

Qualifications

Associate degree or two years of post-secondary education, including two or more years of progressive library experience or service-related field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must complete and pass a  physical examination with drug screening and a CORI/SORI.

Hours: Up to 19 hours per week including a minimum of one night a week, one Saturday a month, and any month with a 5th Saturday.
