Library Director, Northfield Mount Hermon (Gill)
Northfield Mount Hermon seeks an innovative and dynamic librarian with experience in library services who can provide a school-wide understanding of and appreciation for the NMH library system. The Library Director reports to the Academic Dean, serves as the liaison to other academic departments and promotes critical thinking and innovation within the curriculum. The Library Director promotes and maintains equity through a diverse collection of books and practices that make the library and inclusive space. This position provides leadership and administrative oversight in all areas of the library, including budgeting, acquisitions, collection development, research and instruction. The Library Director leads a team of four staff consisting of a Public Services Librarian, School Archivist, Technical Services Associate and an Evening Reference Librarian, and works in collaboration with the Academic Technology Coordinator. This position provides direction for the integration of appropriate and emerging technologies in the service and operation of the library and is responsible for compliance with all pertinent federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Qualifications
The successful applicant will hold a Master's degree in Library Sciences; 5 years of experience in an independent secondary school library or equivalent and at least 2 years of supervisory experience. Candidates must be proficient in information technology and have knowledge of trends and developments in library services. They must have knowledge of federal, state and local regulations governing library operations. Candidates should possess superior organizational, communication, and decision-making skills including attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure and in a timely manner, and strong management skills. Additional qualifications include excellent written and verbal communication skills and superb interpersonal skills that include a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and creatively with diverse populations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and large-scale databases such as Gale and ProQuest. Ability to work flexible hours including weekend and evening work is required.
Candidates must be familiar with boarding school life and work; possess a growth mindset and genuine interest in making a positive impact on the lives of adolescents. They must demonstrate experience in equity and inclusion work that promotes a diverse boarding school community environment.
