Local History & Genealogy Supervisor, Berkshire Athenaeum, Pittsfield's Public Library (Pittsfield)
The Berkshire Athenaeum, Pittsfield's Public Library, is looking for a captain of its Local History & Genealogy team.
In the past weeks, staff have applied for grants, sent off a special collection to be digitized and preserved, done initial intake on a donated research collection, started a chat reference service, and learned about new options for cloud computing, storage, and back-up. Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: A masters degree in library science.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Specialized knowledge of library operations, procedures, and services.
- Progressively responsible professional library experience, including management and supervisory experience.
- Must maintain knowledge in current trends in field of expertise (e.g., online searching, business resources, music and arts resources, local history, genealogy, archives, etc.).
- Knowledge in reference services and current print and electronic reference resources.
- Ability to discern patrons needs, and ability to communicate clearly when answering questions and providing information, ensuring patron understanding. - Understanding of integrated library systems, computing, basic hardware and software for initial troubleshooting.
- Skill in personal time management, and demonstrated patience and skill in dealing with general public.
- Basic arithmetic, as well as general knowledge of office procedures.
