Manager of Borrowers' Services, Springfield City Library (Springfield)

The Springfield (MA) City Library seeks applications to work at our forward-looking, award-winning public library. We are recruiting talented, driven, community-engaged candidates for the following position: Manager of Borrowers' Services (full-time, 40 hours/week). Responsible for administrative and technical work in directing all activities of the library department’s Borrowers' Services division. Works with the development and implementation of system-wide Borrowers’ Services policies and procedures for the Central Library and eight branch libraries. Work is performed with professional administrative judgment and decisions are made in accordance with the policies and objectives of the Library Department, with review by the Library Director who reviews work through reports and conferences. Supervision is exercised over all assigned personnel.

Provides effective recommendations to the Library Director regarding system-wide, regional, and network-wide borrowers’ services policies. Investigates, evaluates, develops, recommends, and implements borrowers’ services policies and procedures to improve customer service, efficiency, materials security, and timely return of borrower’s materials. Responds to circulation related problems from department and branch staff and reports to C/WMARS, our resource sharing network. Manages circulation processes and patron purge projects. Collaborates on and monitors other projects such as database clean-ups. Keeps department and branch staff up-to-date and trained as necessary regarding changes in the automated system. Supervises the hiring, training, assigning and reviewing of subordinates' work. Oversees day-to-day operations of the circulation desks, interoffice delivery, periodicals processing, delivery system, holds and other circulation related jobs in absence of the supervisor and the principal clerk. Serves on and represents the library at relevant library,  network, regional, and state-wide committees. Keeps abreast of trends and developments in the library field. Compiles statistical data and prepares/submits appropriate reports as required. Models standards of excellent customer service for subordinates by assisting borrowers.

Residency in the City of Springfield within one year of the date of hire is required.
