Youth Services Librarian, Woburn Public Library (Woburn)

The Woburn Public Library seeks a Youth Services Librarian with creativity, technological savvy, and a firm belief in the importance public libraries play in the development of children and young adults.  Must be a team player who adapts well to change and is able to work collaboratively with other departments in and outside the library.  The successful candidate is a self-starter, has a solid foundation in child development, knows trends in the field, and is adept at partnering with school agencies, and organizations to offer robust collections, services and programs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to collection development, cataloging, programming, marketing, outreach, overseeing the daily operations of the Children’s Room, and leading a talented youth services staff.  The Youth Services Librarian serves families with children ages newborn to grad 6 who expect a very high level of service.

The Woburn Public Library, designed by H.H. Richardson, is a national historic landmark built in 1879.  It boasts a state-of-the-art new addition which is an architectural marvel.  The Children’s Room is a beautiful expansive space equipped with all modern technology to serve the children of Woburn.

The Youth Services Librarian works under the general supervision of and in collaboration with the Library Director and Assistant Director.  The Youth Services Librarian assists the Library Director in the development of library goals and objectives; keeps up-to-date on current professional literature relating to children’s development; attends professional/network meetings as applicable; encourages staff to engage in professional development.

37.5 hours per week including some evenings and every other Saturday.

Qualifications

M.L.S. from an ALA accredited institution.

Three to five years’ experience in youth services.

Extensive knowledge of reader’s advisory and children’s literature, and literacy development.

Good understanding of technology and social media.

$58,958.98 - $ 72,662.37, commensurate with experience.
